American Sign Language: The alphabet
here and a bit
more here.
Austin, TX:
I lived there from 2002-2004 and absolutely love the place.
I highly recommend Austin as a
travel destination. I've found a really good Austin travel
guide website at
www.austintexas.org. Also,
here are some interesting tidbits about the Texas Capitol
building along with a photo.
Detroit:
The birthplace of the auto industry. Detroit has gotten a
really bad rap, deservedly in a lot of aspects. Large swaths
of neighborhoods have plunged into indescribable hellholes of
blight, poverty and unbridled drug commerce. However, the
downtown area and waterfront have undergone massive
redevelopment which provide a sense of promise. I've found a
nice photo gallery of downtown Detroit
here. My favorite is Comerica Park, the marvelous ballpark
of the Detroit Tigers. I enjoy catching a game once in a
while. A restaurant I especially like is Slows Bar-B-Q. It
opened a couple years ago and their pulled pork sandwich is
the best. Their website is
www.slowsbarbq.com. New businesses like this are exactly
what Detroit needs.
Port Huron,
MI: My hometown, Port Huron is the county seat of St.
Clair County and the central city of the Blue Water Area. Port
Huron is an hour northeast of Detroit, right where the St.
Clair river flows into Lake Huron. Port Huron is right across
the St. Clair river from Sarnia, Ontario, and the connecting
Blue Water Bridge is one of the highest-trafficked border
crossings. Port Huron calls itself the Maritime Capitol of the
Great Lakes, although Chicago has something to say about that.
Both cities are the starting point for the two major annual
sailboat races to Mackinac Island, MI. The Blue Water Area
Convention & Visitors Bureau website is at
www.bluewater.org.
TrekEarth:
One of my longtime favorites. You can see the whole world
right at your fingertips! You can find it at
www.trekearth.com.
